In line with our charters of establishment, the polytechnic/university has recruited aggressively all over the world for renowned professors with an established track record in research and young doctoral graduates with a demonstrated potential in research in areas relevant to the development of Hong Kong ever since it was set up in 1984.  From day one, applied electromagnetics has been identified as a vital technology for the growth of the industry of electronics and information in the region, and therefore we were determined to build a strong team in this discipline.  To this end, we are proud that we have put together an outstanding team of 15 professors, including 4 IEEE fellows, 5 IEE fellows, 3 CIE fellows, and 3 HKIE fellows.  These professors are aided by a team of a hundred research fellows, research associates, and research assistants funded by external or internal research grants, not to mention the tens of graduate students funded by the university.  Moreover, the research center has recruited many engineers, 28 at the last count, of various grades for converting the results obtained in our fundamental research projects into ready-for-manufacturing prototypes.  It represents a critical mass rarely found in other university in the world, and it is comparable to the largest one in the United States of America.
