The Department of Computer Science was established in 1984, and has evolved from a teaching-oriented department into one that excels in both teaching and research.
The Department launched its first BSc(Hons) in Computer Studies in 1987 (renamed and restructured as the BSc(Hons) Computer Science in 2000), followed by the MSc in Computer Science in 1991. The Department also produced its first PhD graduate in 1994.
In addition to offering traditional courses such as foundations of computer science, computer architecture and software engineering, our curriculum exposes students to the latest advances in distributed databases, parallel programming, Internet and mobile computing and high-speed networking... Achievements & Awards
CityU Computer Science Students Won the Champion University Award and the 1st & 2nd Runner-ups at the IBM Inter-University Programming Contest 2010.
CityU CS students achieved great success in the IBM Inter-University Programming Contest 2010, which was held on January 30, 2010. The Department of Computer Science assembled five teams, among whom our best two teams won the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up awards out of 33 competitive teams from universities in Hong Kong and Macau. Each of the winning team members received a trophy. Cash awards of HK$ 15,000 and HK$9,000 were shared by the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up team members respectively. In addition, the five CityU CS teams scored the most points, beat other participating universities and clinched the Champion University Award. Last year, a CityU CS team achieved a remarkable result of winning the championship.
