The department offers academic programs that converge traditionally diverse and separated mass communication modes (e.g. journalism, television/radio, advertising, public relations, and new media) and train students to be professional communicators with abilities to work in a converged media/information environment. It emphasises the integral infusion of new technologies and scientific guidance with creativity in the education of communicators, which is supported by a state-of-the-art integrated and inter-compatible digital multimedia platform that provides a common digital infrastructure for all the media and applied research on communication (including digital TV shooting/editing studios, audio recording and advertising shooting/designing studios, and new media and eye tracking labs) set up amidst commercial companies in the InnoCenter and in the landmark Multimedia Building to be completed in 2009-10. The programs are taught by a strong team of scholars and educators, who were ranked number one in communication/media research in Hong Kong i n the Research Assessment Exercise 2006.
