Law is an instrument of progressive development. The role of the School of Law is to offer the highest quality of education in all important branches of law so that its students can meet the challenges of the legal profession in the globalised world. At the same time, the School pays special attention to the needs of legal profession and related fields in Hong Kong, the mainland, and the Asia-Pacific region. The School maintains close contacts with the legal profession and the judiciary in Hong Kong. The School has strong links with some of the leading universities on the mainland and overseas. The School has a multicultural faculty, which pursues excellence and innovation in teaching and research. The School has one of the best library facilities in Asia. The School attracts students from different parts of the world.
Recognising the importance of globalisation, the School has launched a Global Legal Education and Awareness Project (G-LEAP) as well as a few other international cooperative ventures. G-LEAP enables students to study at Oxford and Monash Universities. Also, eminent professors from Yale, Oxford and other leading institutions offer courses, either in person or through virtual class, to our students. Our faculty offers courses at the East China University of Political Science and Law and other universities in the mainland and overseas.
The School organises international seminars, eminent speakers series, and several other academic events to maintain an intellectually stimulating atmosphere. Moreover, the School contributes to various community services.
The School offers several degree programmes: the Bachelor of Laws with Honours; the Juris Doctor; the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws for those preparing to become solicitors or barristers; the Master of Laws; the Doctor of Juridical Science; and the Master of Arts in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution.
The School teaches service courses on legal subjects to other academic departments in the University, as well as Law minor and double degree programmes, including the Bachelor of Engineering in Building Engineering with Law minor, Bachelor of Science in Surveying with Law minor and Bachelor of Engineering in Information Engineering with Law minor. Double degrees are Bachelor of Engineering in Building Engineering and Bachelor of Laws; Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Bachelor of Laws; Bachelor of Engineering in Information Engineering and Bachelor of Laws. Other law-related programmes include Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy and Law.
The School has a global vision. The School provides a healthy atmosphere for its faculty students to strive towards excellence in the globalised world.
