Forensic Science is the application of scientific principles and methodologies to matters of the law. While a lot of forensic science investigations are related to criminal cases, forensic examinations are also important in many different types of civil cases and other matters that may not be directly related to any legal proceedings. This General Education course aims to introduce students to the various aspects in which Forensic Science are applied in sophisticated societies such as Hong Kong. Not only will the course deal with traditional aspects of forensics such as crime scene investigation (CSI) and effective presentation of evidence in Court, it will also demonstrate how forensic techniques, together with the exercise of common sense and logical thinking, are harnessed in counter terrorism, computer forensics, the detection of counterfeit items and accident investigation.
